Joshua Olara

Audio Engineer · Sound Designer · Mix Engineer · General Secretary, SAEG

Joshua Jonathan Olara is a certified audio engineer and audio-visual technician with over a decade of professional experience spanning film, television, animation, live sound, and music production. He holds four Avid Pro Tools certifications and a Diploma in Sound Engineering & Music Technologies from the Emendy Multimedia Technology Institute in Pretoria. He currently serves as General Secretary of the Uganda Sound Authors and Engineers Guild (SAEG) and is an active contributor to the growth of the East African film and animation industry.

Much of Joshua's recent work sits at the supervising level, where he assembles teams and carries projects end to end. On the 2025 feature You May Kiss The Bride Goodbye (Kunta Africa) he served as Supervising Sound Editor, overseeing original music composition and sync-licence acquisition, dialogue edits, sound effects, and voiceover recording before engineering the final mix under a compressed timeline. On Racheal's Old King he led the sound production and post team from casting and recording through delivery. He was also Audio Engineer and Producer on Stories From The Source of the Nile, a landmark collaboration between KATOTO, the French Embassy in Uganda, and GOBELINS Paris, composing and producing audio for five original short animated films that spotlight East African stories and emerging animation talent.

His television work includes long-running post-production supervision. On Beloved (Seasons 1 and 2, episodes 130–360) for AvaJuliet Productions he was Final Sound Supervisor and Mixing Engineer, handling dialogue edit and repair, ADR and voiceover, ambience and room tone, music selection, Foley and SFX integration, and final mix to broadcast loudness standards, with full stem delivery. He carried the same responsibilities on Prestige (Season 3). Earlier animation work runs deep too: he supervised sound on Time Travellers and edited post sound on Chebet, a UCC Award-winning short that remains a landmark in Ugandan animation.

Technically, Joshua is fluent across Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Nuendo, and Adobe Audition, with iZotope for analysis and repair, and he handles composition, SFX editing, final mixing, ADR, and dialogue repair as a matter of course. On the live side he works front-of-house and in-ear/sidestage engineering, and he moves comfortably across multimedia tools including Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve. His Avid certifications span Operator 210 Post, Operator 210 Music, User Game Audio, and User 101.
