Andrew Ahuurra is an acclaimed audio professional whose career spans music composition, immersive sound design, and post-production. Across more than twenty years, he has built a holistic approach to sound that balances technical precision with emotional resonance, and he has become one of the voices helping to shape Africa's sonic identity in cinema and media.
He started out mastering the fundamentals — sound design, Foley, ADR, and broadcast live mixing — and steadily moved into immersive audio. Along the way he earned certifications from Dolby Technologies and Film Skills, a reflection of his commitment to industry standards and to the craft itself. His work has drawn nominations and recognition from institutions including TIFF, Sundance, PAFF, the AMVCAs, Kalasha, and the Cannes sphere.
As a composer, Andrew has scored films, documentaries, television, and multimedia projects, with each score growing out of a close reading of narrative, mood, and space. His instinct for weaving thematic motifs and sonic textures into storytelling has made him a trusted collaborator for directors and producers who want depth from their sound. As a supervising sound editor and audio post lead, he takes soundtracks all the way through delivery — guiding the mix, spatialization, and final master, and overseeing every element from dialogue to ambience. Most recently he composed original music and led audio post for 3 Cold Dishes, Burna Boy's landmark Pan-African film — a project that unites African narratives across borders, languages, and cultures, and one that let Andrew bring cinematic scale, musical vision, and post-production discipline together in a single work.
His practice reaches well beyond the studio. He has captured 3D audio recordings in remote natural settings, notably in Kenya's Samburu and Amboseli parks, folding real soundscapes, ambient textures, and spatial realism into his toolkit — recordings that give projects a genuine sense of place. Teaching and mentorship sit at the centre of how he works: he has led masterclasses through Durban FilmMart, run workshops in Malawi, and shared his approach to mixing, post workflows, and immersive audio widely. He was also named among the top ten composers out of Africa selected for the Red Sea Festival Labs.
Andrew's role now extends into industry leadership, serving as a jury member for awards and festivals and as a mentor within Africa's growing creative ecosystems. Through his compositions, field recordings, teaching, and technical leadership, he remains committed to rebranding Africa through sound and raising the standard of what audiences hear in African cinema.
